Cute kitten pictures at Keeping Kittens. Maria introduces us to Kirby, her super adorable, grey tabby kitty and shares his story. She has even shared a gorgeous cute kitten picture to boot...
Kirby is the latest addition to our four-legged family of furry friends, which include one Mackeral Tabby, one Pastel Calico Tiger Tabby, one Tonkinese, and one Mutt. We walked into a local pet store chain a week and a half ago to purchase dog and cat food, and came out with that, and a little bit more.
A little ball of gray fluff to be exact--and kitten food, of course. The shelter that was featuring the corral of kittens for adoption that day thought that he was about 7 weeks old, though he was very, very tiny.
As soon as I saw him jumping around, climbing up the side of the "play-pen", I knew he would fit right in with our family, and needed to come home with us right away. My husband was not so sure. , but fell in love with him as soon as we got him home and decided he should be named Kirby.
Kirby was full of energy, vim and vigor, but after a few days we noticed he wasn't eating as well, and because I had weighed him the first day we adopted him, I knew he was starting to lose weight.
We always keep our new additions separate from our other pets for several months, to make sure they don't "share" anything with the others. When he started having diarrhea I knew he needed to get to the vet ASAP, and it was there I first heard about
Fading Kitten Syndrome.
I went home with several medications and baby kitten food, syringes and supplements, and started feeding my little guy 6 ml. of his special food every hour. Within half a day his energy was back up and his eyes were bright again.
He's not out of the woods yet. . .he will only eat on his own intermittently, so I will continue to monitor him closely and make sure he gets the nutrition, care, and love he needs and deserves. I don't want to even think about what would have happened if we hadn't adopted him that day.
Thanks for sharing this cute kitten pic Maria! Kirby is adorable and all the best with his recovery. It is great you were able to help a sick kitten and make a home for him.
